Scotch Buff Sandstone

Scotch Buff is a pale buff coloured sandstone which derives its name from the fact that the quarry is situated very near to Scotch Corner in Richmondshire.

This warm coloured sandstone, which has varying degrees of darker bed markings, derives it's name from the fact that the quarry is situated very near to Scotch Corner in Richmondshire.

The quarry was first worked as early as 1788 and used in a number of prestigious buildings in the area, although historical records are few.
