Dukes Sandstone

Quarried near Whatstandwell in Derbyshire this stone is probably the most uniquely attractive sandstone quarried in the UK. Originally quarried to provide stone for Sir George Stephenson's development of the Railways.

iDukes Sandstone is a medium grained Gritstone, pink / lilac in colour with beautiful veined bed markings. The Mappa Mundi Building in Hereford shows it off to its best.

Leicester Jail was built from this stone in 1825 and has never needed restoration, which must be testament to its durability.

Most commonly used for facades applications – it is an ideal match for the Nuremberg area of Germany.
