Quarried near Grantham in Lincolnshire, this quarry yields 3 distinct beds. Weatherbed – ideal flooring material, which takes a good polish. This comes as a blue and beige mix and contains many shell fossils. Hard White – has graced cathedrals and prestigious buildings including St. Pancras for many years. The stone is uniform cream in colour with occasional pink shading. Basebed – not commonly known – this stone is similar to Clipsham stone. Ancaster Limestone has contributed to the heritage of many English cities including Cambridge and Lincoln. Reference projects include: Lincoln Cathedral, Windsor Castle and Trinity College Cambridge. BRE have graded Weatherbed and Hard White as C & D type Limestone’s respectively. The quarry is worked periodically by our Southern quarry team, either to order or to replenish stocks.
